Lots of different kinds of fish live in the sea. Some live near the bottom, in deep sea. Some live near the top.

Many fish live in groups, called schools. This confuses the animals that try to eat them.

Sharks live in the sea. There are many kinds of shark. Whales are animals that live in the water.  

Animals like walrus, seals and polar bears spend a much of their time in the sea, but also come onto land. Penguins are birds that do not fly, and spend part of their time on land and part in the sea.

Fresh water

Lots of different fish live in freshwater.

Some animals live just part of their lives in the water. Dragonflies and mosquitoes live under water when they hatch out of eggs, then they change into flying insects.

Tadpoles hatch out of eggs laid by frogs and live under the water. They get bigger and grow legs, then become frogs that can live on land and in the water as well.

There are many freshwater animals that live in and out of the water.
